Week 14 - Last Post - Celebrate your Life

This class flew by and I cannot believe it is already over.  I learned so many things to ponder and consider with my life going forward.  I loved the talk by President Monsen "Finishers Wanted", as it really hit home about being a finisher and not just a starter. I loved the quote in the talk about the mark of effort, which read " Vision without effort is daydreaming; effort without vision is drudgery; but vision, coupled with effort, will obtain the prize."  How easy it is to think about getting things done or think of things we want to do but acting on those thoughts is what makes the biggest difference in our lives.  So many insights and learning from this course about what I really want to do next professionally with my life.  It became very clear to me why I love project management and how I want to continue on in the field.  Also, understanding how to have a better mentality when going into a job and realizing that if you are not at a job you love you probably

Week 13 - Journey of Gratitude

As always I enjoyed the readings from this week's lesson of understanding what it takes on our entrepreneur journey.  With reading the case study about Randy and his personal and professional journey to becoming an entrepreneur it reminded me that I love to be part of a new business, but have never desired to start one on my own.  Because I am extroverted and love working with a team of people in a great office, I have always steered my career towards working for great companies.  Some of my favorite past jobs were when I was passionate about my work and enjoyed the friendship and collaboration of the team I worked with.  Overtime I have learned that is all about your attitude and keeping your chin in up in times of stress and deadlines.  People enjoy being around people who uplift and are happy more than someone who is pessimistic and negative about everything.  Another great reminder for me this week was with gratitude and remembering that if we have in abundance it is important

Week 12 - Becoming a change maker

This week had a lot of great content with the book and the articles.  I loved Elder Hollands talk of "Are we all not beggars."  Understanding that each of us can make a difference in this world, even if it is just with one person can go a long way.  I think that often we may affect or help people and not even be aware of it and what we are providing.  Being a loving spouse, a good friend, a great parent alone can make all the difference in this life.  With the article about making this a poverty free world I thought most of the concepts are interesting.  Especially because I sit here thinking well a lot would need to change in this world for this to happen.  When really I should be thinking what can I do to make a difference in others lives with helping the poor and needy.  If everyone in this world took the time to make a difference with just one person in their lives we would live in a very different world. Love and kindness can go along way.  I also really enjoyed reading

Week 11 - Financial Fitness

I really enjoyed the readings from this week and the different topics discussed.  The one thing that really hit me was the balance or work and home life.  Just like in the examples of the mini cases this week I feel that having this balance can be a tricky thing.  When I worked at Suntec Concrete for 6 years, I really struggled to balance personal and work life as I was so involved with work and always put that first.  It was over time and some hard trials that I realized I needed a healthier balance so I could take care of me.  Leaving that job was a hard thing but also a wake up call for me that I needed to be able to balance my life better.  I really enjoyed reading the article about people's attitude with money.  It is so true that money does not buy happiness as we have seen from so many examples over time that you have to choose to be happy with or with out money.  Money can provide a sense of accomplishment and security but it is up to us how we feel about ourselves and our

Week 10 - Dream big Dreams

I really enjoyed pondering the material learned from this week and also doing the mentor paper to reflect on what I learned.  I really liked the article the "The heart of entrepreneurship" as it shed great light on what it means to be an entrepreneur.  Understanding that you can be a part of a company and have an entrepreneur mindset which will allow you to be a better leader and manager.  The biggest thing that I learned and felt good about this week was the path to finish all my education and then create a plan for the next step in my career.  I am grateful I have the opportunity to start a family and stay home with my kids while finishing my education.  I have always struggled before I was married to focus on school as I was so involved with work. Now being married and not having to work has provided me with the time to focus on school and my family which I am grateful for.  Dallin H. Oaks talk was also a great reminder especially in the time we are living in that we need

Week 9 - Disciple Leadership

I really enjoyed a lot of things from the reading this week.  My favorite article was "A message to Garcia" and how it talks about self discipline and not questioning your leader when given a task.  This really hit me as it is easy to question things that your boss or leader is asking you to do.  But when I  was reading this I thought why do we question and not just do.   Leading with a small "l" really hit me as well as it is so important to lead by example and to lead with love being a disciple of Christ.  I think we often forget these simple things when someone upsets us or does not react the way we expect.  But ultimately it is our actions that matter in these situations and how we choose to react.  Looking back I of course can think of times in the work place I wish I would have acted differently and not have questioned things.  Interviewing the entrepreneur I choose was also fun and a learning experience.  I have known Danielle for many years and have never ta

Week 8 - Overcoming Trials

I really enjoyed the material for this week's class and how it applies to so many parts of life.  The messages shared by President Monson and Elder Holland were great reminders that we should not give up and to always keep fighting no matter the challenges you are faces with. There are so many challenges thrown at us in life and if we are not equipped to face them with the strength of our heavenly father they can take us to some dark places.  I know for me when I have faced some hard challenges in life that I had the realization on multiple occasions that they could either break me or make me stronger.  I recall that at times in my life I always felt when I was experiencing these challenges that people were looking at me differently.  Over time I realized that we are our own worst judges and that often it was just me being hard on myself because I felt that I had let myself down.  Thankfully there is always more chances around the corner and the goal of this life is to always get b
