Week 10 - Dream big Dreams

I really enjoyed pondering the material learned from this week and also doing the mentor paper to reflect on what I learned.  I really liked the article the "The heart of entrepreneurship" as it shed great light on what it means to be an entrepreneur.  Understanding that you can be a part of a company and have an entrepreneur mindset which will allow you to be a better leader and manager.  The biggest thing that I learned and felt good about this week was the path to finish all my education and then create a plan for the next step in my career.  I am grateful I have the opportunity to start a family and stay home with my kids while finishing my education.  I have always struggled before I was married to focus on school as I was so involved with work. Now being married and not having to work has provided me with the time to focus on school and my family which I am grateful for.  Dallin H. Oaks talk was also a great reminder especially in the time we are livi...

Week 9 - Disciple Leadership

I really enjoyed a lot of things from the reading this week.  My favorite article was "A message to Garcia" and how it talks about self discipline and not questioning your leader when given a task.  This really hit me as it is easy to question things that your boss or leader is asking you to do.  But when I  was reading this I thought why do we question and not just do.   Leading with a small "l" really hit me as well as it is so important to lead by example and to lead with love being a disciple of Christ.  I think we often forget these simple things when someone upsets us or does not react the way we expect.  But ultimately it is our actions that matter in these situations and how we choose to react.  Looking back I of course can think of times in the work place I wish I would have acted differently and not have questioned things.  Interviewing the entrepreneur I choose was also fun and a learning experience.  I have known Daniell...

Week 8 - Overcoming Trials

I really enjoyed the material for this week's class and how it applies to so many parts of life.  The messages shared by President Monson and Elder Holland were great reminders that we should not give up and to always keep fighting no matter the challenges you are faces with. There are so many challenges thrown at us in life and if we are not equipped to face them with the strength of our heavenly father they can take us to some dark places.  I know for me when I have faced some hard challenges in life that I had the realization on multiple occasions that they could either break me or make me stronger.  I recall that at times in my life I always felt when I was experiencing these challenges that people were looking at me differently.  Over time I realized that we are our own worst judges and that often it was just me being hard on myself because I felt that I had let myself down.  Thankfully there is always more chances around the corner and the goal of this lif...

Week 7 - Seven Habits

This week had a lot of good insights with the reading from the lesson and also finishing the book on Mastery.  Out of the seven habits a few of them stuck out to me and were great reminders.  At a past job I worked at for almost six years we had workshops on these seven habits and how we could better apply them to not only our work lives but our personal lives.  I would meet with my boss every 3-6 months and we would create a win/win worksheet together so we could be on the same page with goals and ways to have a win/win at the end of each quarter.  I really enjoyed learning how to apply a win/win worksheet in the workplace and how it is so important to work as a team and bring positive energy.  I also liked being reminded to begin with the end in mind to help you be productive.  I know for me personally this vision has helped me through task and learning skills that I was not looking forward to.  I feel it is important to enjoy what you do and reading...
