Week Five

I really enjoyed the readings from this week and my favorite was the case study.  Seeing how someone made their passion come to life and was able to make a business out of it was inspiring.  This really triggered ideas and things for me that I know I need to look into and figure out. I have thought about pursuing a passion that I could work out of my house for years and have always known that this would be something I wanted when I had a family.

I also love reading the talk on perseverance and the importance of this characteristic.  It is not always easy to push ourselves and to keep going at times in our lives but when we do the reward is very satisfying.  This reminds me of working out and how it is so important to have perseverance when pursuing working out.  There will always be days when your body feels too tired, when your mental capacity feels like it is at it's end wits, but these are the times that is the most important to push and persevere as it will create strong habits in our lives.

Are successful entrepreneurs born or made? I loved reading this article as I agree that anyone can have a talent and just like the parable of the talents it is up to us what we do with our talent.  It takes hours to master a still set even when talent is involved.  I think of my niece who is an amazing basketball player and just received a scholarship to play in college. Does she have talent at sports, there is no doubt that she does.  But she also puts in the time and effort it takes to develop that talent.  Ever since she was a kid she loved to play sports and she would spend hours and hours practicing basketball on her own in edition to working with the team.  I agree that entrepreneurs are made more than they are born, as it takes hard work and perseverance to develop the skill needed to become a great entrepreneur.

I loved the video about "How to find your passion".  I have struggled with this question over the years and still feel like I have not nailed it down completely.  I see others who have specific hobbies they are really great at and think of my life and how I have never found a direct passion.  Over this past year one thing that has stood out to me that I love doing is creating and designing things on the computer.  I have been doing picture books and love the opportunity to organize the layout.  I feel we can have many different passions in life but to find something you can apply to the work world whether it is working for yourself or a company is the trick to being content with what you do each day.
