I really enjoyed the readings and case study from this weeks assignments. It is always inspiring to read others story's of how they found success in their lives and fulfilled their dreams. When reading Elder Robins talk I liked how he talked about the different levels of motives that drive companies and individuals. I feel I have worked for both A,B,C level companies throughout my career. It is amazing how some companies can start out at A level companies and quickly move down in levels based on their decisions and what they put first. I have seen with my own eyes how money and power can quickly change a person and a company.
Seeing the different steps for the "Formula of Success" shared by Jim Ritchie was also inspiring. He stated the following three steps from Jay and combined them with David Hates three steps. First being Get up early and get an education, second being work hard and make your mark, third being find your oil and prepare to serve/give back. I really enjoyed being reminded of these as I have read a lot of motivational books in the past and most will talk about working hard and the importance of being an early riser. Because I require so much sleep it has taken me a lot of years to find a happy balance that includes early to rise and early to bed. I always find it so amazing what you can get done when you wake up before 6AM to conquer the day.
I also loved the step of finding your oil. To me this means finding what motivates and inspires you each day to work hard and be the person you want to be. We all have days when we do not feel like confronting and doing what lies ahead of us, but at the end of the day when you are fulfilled you can not replace that feeling of accomplishment. Working hard and putting forth a true effort are always the most rewarding.
I am looking forward to continue to dive deep in this class and learn more about what can help me personally to pursue my dreams. The different exercises and books we are required to read for this class have already given me ideas and thoughts of what I want the future to look like. I am a big fan of writing things down and looking back to gauge and understand your progress.
